Every system has defects. The question is who discovers them — a machine, before release, or a paying customer at the worst possible moment.

Quality is a process, not a phase

The second year is the real test.

Anything can be made to work for a launch. What matters is whether it can still be changed safely once the excitement is over and the people who built it have moved on.

Why software decays

The day it goes down is the day it matters.

Outages rarely happen at convenient times. Availability is the difference between a problem your engineers handle quietly and a problem your customers announce for you.

Failure is normal. Outages are optional.
